Slow Farm

Rachel Herrick

North Carolina

The Farm

A woman-run regenerative farm in the Carolina Sandhills. We use our team of pigs, goats, and poultry to improve our soil and grow a variety of native and hardy botanicals. We transform our harvests in our renovated 1934 tobacco barn workshop, producing a line of ethical luxury beauty and wellness products called Slow Goods.

The Project Funded

This Farmer’s Grant will fund a mobile distillation system that will allow us to produce large batches of essential oils in the field, removing the tedious stem of hauling plant material back to the workshop.

Project Impact

Having a mobile distillation system will remove an awkward bottleneck in our production process and allow us to compost the used plant materials on site, keeping more of the fertility on site.
