The Farm
We are a 280 year old family farm in Southern Maine focusing on seasonal flower and vegetable production. We sell our produce to local restaurants, at farmers markets and at our farm stand that also has a commercial kitchen where we produce baked, frozen, canned and fresh goods.
The Project Funded
This grant money will be used to install a deer fence in one of our main growing fields. Over the last 10 years or more, the pressure and damage caused by deer has caused us to lose major percentages of crops and therefore income.
Project Impact
This past year alone, we could not harvest any head lettuces due to the damage caused by deer. Being able to fence in one of our main growing fields will allow us to successfully grow not only lettuce, but several other crops without the danger of loss due to deer. This will be a huge financial benefit to us as it will allow us to generate income on what we grow and what we grow is sold directly to our community through our farm stand, local restaurants and at farmers markets.
