The Farm
Reverence Farms started with a family cow and a ¼-acre garden. Now a combined 500-acres with 70 milking Jerseys, flock of St.Croix sheep, Berkshire pigs, horses and Jersey bulls that travel all over, on hoof or in straws, to breed more cows that can efficiently convert forage into high-component, high-cheese-yield milk.
The Project Funded
The purpose of applying for this grant was to help off-set extensive hay bills for our grass-fed herd. Like many farmers in our region, our pastures suffered under the severe drought this past year. This grant helps us breathe a little easier.
Project Impact
Our herd is grass-fed. While pasture health consumes our days, we have to work with the weather. Unfortunetly the severe drought had a very negative impact on our grazing plans. We fed our winter hay early, and purchased more. This grant helps us manage these costs a bit easier.
