The Farm
On the island of Martha’s Vineyard, Jo Douglas runs two livestock farm enterprises: Fork to Pork and Leaf to Beef. Jo raises thirty pigs entirely on food scraps with Fork to Pork, and with Leaf to Beef Jo raises 10 grass-fed Hereford beef cattle on nine rented farm pastures.
The Project Funded
The For Farmers Grant will allow Jo to purchase 149 more pigtail posts in order to fence in more pasture for her grazing cattle. Jo has access to an additional 13 acres of land this season, effectively providing almost 50% more pasture, so she can raise even more beef animals.
Project Impact
Farmer Jo is dedicated to growing high-quality, nutritious food for her island community. She loves raising her beef cattle and grazing them on various farms across the island. The additional pigtail posts will allow her to fence in additional land to grow her herd in order to feed more people.
