Bluebird Farm

William Lyons and Marie Williamson

Fall 2024

North Carolina

The Farm

Marie and William work hard to raise flavorful vegetables, pastured meats, and eggs using techniques that improve the health of their land and contribute to a diverse farm ecosystem.

The Project Funded

The grant will be applied towards the thousands of dollars of microbiology soil testing for pathogens that the farm did in the weeks after terrible flooding from Hurricane Helene in the fall of 2024.

Project Impact

Food safety is an important part of growing food for the community. The microbiology testing is not mandatory, but the farmers at Bluebird Farm wanted a snapshot of what potential pathogens might be present after flooding so that additional precautions could be add to the farm's food safety plan.
