The Farm
A small family owned farm, located in South Central Pennsylvania. The Barton family has owned this farm since 1880. I currently raise registered St Croix Hair Sheep, which is a heritage breed that is on the Livestock Conservancy's watch list. The sheep are raised for breeding stock as well as meat products. I also raise KIKO goats for breeding stock as well as meat. Hay and vegetables are also produced.
The Project Funded
In collaboration with Melwood Farm, and Trillium Farm, the purpose of this grant will be to find a new breeding ram to share amongst the three farms. We will do genetic testing and pedigree research to find a ram.
Project Impact
By doing the genetic testing and pedigree research, we aim to improve the genetics of our farms, and, enhance the St Croix breed standards.
