The Farm
Auburn Meadow Farm is a small pastured livestock farm, focused on animal welfare, soil, biodiversity, nutrient-density, and flavor. We explore pre-WWI farming methods and flavors you can't buy in the store.
The Project Funded
I am looking to upgrade my process for egg production and expanding the number of laying hens. To start, upgrading and refining the collection process for the hens I currently have to increase the number of salable eggs and reduce the need for washing the eggs is key to reducing labor time, and decreasing the number of eggs lost in transport from nests to washing station.
Project Impact
Eggs are not my primary enterprise, but I am very attached to the hens and excellent quality eggs are a lower-priced gateway product that people unfamiliar with the difference between commodity product and truly pastured respond to, and easily detect the difference animal welfare and pasture makes.
My collection set up is very stitched-together and the loss of salable eggs can be greatly improved via better nesting boxes and egg collection/storage equipment.
