The Farm
We are a heritage farm in Alabama that focuses on both producing a product and preserving the breeds of yesterday. Our breeds pre-date commercial farming and many are at risk of being endangered. We produce breeding stock for other farms and provide raw milk, pork, eggs, and raw milk soaps for our community.
The Project Funded
This grant will purchase wood to build new pasture huts for our goats and hogs. Our original huts were built several years ago, and have begun to deteriorate from the elements. This grant will provide three huts for our livestock to protect them from rain and cold weather this winter.
The Project Impact
We farm debt-free on cash alone, and doubling our dairy herd to meet milk demand stretched every dollar. The grant bought wood for new pasture huts for our goats and hogs, replacing shelters worn down by years of weather, right as winter arrived.
